When we think about web design, we often think about the process with a focus on technical aspects like as wireframes, coding, content marketing and management.
But really, great web design isn’t about how you integrate social media buttons or embed a video. Good design is actually about creating a website that aligns with your overarching strategy, as well as your brand.
Websites that are well-designed offer much more than just aesthetics, or just great SEO, or just impressive code. They incorporate all of these factors, they attract visitors and more importantly they keep visitors on the site.
So, every element of your site needs to work towards a defined goal.
But how do you achieve that?
For us, we know that web design is a complex process that results in a simple outcome.
However here’s a little information and summary on what that process might involve:
- Identifying goals
We work closely with our clients to determine what goals they have for their site and what they’re wanting to fulfill. For example, its purpose could be to generate calls and leads, or it could be to have customers buy a certain product.
- Site requirements
This means defining the scope of the project. So what pages and features the site requires to succeed in their goals.
This is where a sitemap is created to help define how the content and features will be set out.
- Content creation
With the sitemap in mind, content for the individual pages can be created. When doing this, you always want to keep in mind search engine optimization, this will ensure pages are focused on a single topic/ goal.
- Visual elements
So applying visual elements to the site, ensuring that they fit with the brand guidelines. Depending on the client, some may already have a brand and some may require a new one.
So checking that it all works. Manually browse the site on a variety of devices and check for errors. You can also use site audits that detect errors like broken links.
Launching a website is very exciting. This should include planning both launch timing and communication strategies. This could be posting on social media, PR, perhaps TV and radio slots too if it’s in your budget.
